Joker - Movie Review

The American thriller drama - “Joker”, directed and produced by Todd Phillips is one of the most watched movies of 2019. The movie is based on DC Comics that we are very familiar with but it gives us a completely different perspective as compared to the other movies with the same characters. Arthur Fleck played by Joaquin Phoenix, was a man living in Gotham city. He was a failed stand-up comedian who was ill-treated and misunderstood by everyone. He had a medical condition, which made him unable to control his laughter and this caused a lot of humiliation. Life in Gotham city was more like a struggle for him. Working as a part-time clown, he always had to put up a fake smile on his face, pretending not to be depressed. Though he tried to be nice to people, he always learnt it the hard way that nobody cared about petty people like him. All his emotions which were bottled up way too long burst out one day and he was taken over by his alter ego, and he realised that was what made him feel more alive. This marked the rise of the iconic super-villain Joker, Batman’s ultimate enemy.  The story has been beautifully sewn up to show us the journey of a simple Arthur to a bold and fearless rebellion. It tells us how behind a rebellious individual there is most likely a soul which was once oppressed. Joaquin Phoenix’s marvellous acting in the movie definitely calls for appreciation. The Oscar received by him under the “Best Actor” category is truly well deserved by him. The setting of the movie and the music used have all been perfectly blended together to make this movie a huge success.

The movie is one of my absolute favourites! After Heath Ledger, Joaquin Phoenix was the person who brought this character to life. Well-written review! <3
