Here's a short story that I wrote. Please do give it a read and let me know if you liked it.
DAVID
With a heavy heart he kept walking in the graveyard
looking for that one name. He stood still in silence when he found it. There it
was right in front of his eyes.
“Hey David, look it’s me, Robert”, he whispered softly,
holding back tears.
David was not only a good friend but also very kind and
helpful to everyone who needed help. Whenever Robert tried to close his eyes
and recall David, he would always remember a cheerful and happy face which
never failed to greet anyone with a smile.
Then came the dark days. A pandemic that spread all over
the world. COVID-19 was its name. It took lives of thousands of innocent people
and David was one of them. History will remember these days and also the hero
that brought light in darkest days. It was a young scientist, Dr. Bennet who
worked for months to find a cure. His vaccines were rejected in the beginning
by the senior doctors. They said that it wouldn’t be effective for such a
strong virus. Disheartened, he kept working day and night, hardly getting out
of the lab. No one saw him for weeks. He would always stay busy in his lab,
looking through the microscope and scribbling things down in his diary.
One fine morning a parcel was received by the National
Virology Departmental Laboratories sent by Dr. Bennet. It had a diary in it
with a note that read, “I think this vaccine might help. All the details of the
structures and formulae are given in this diary”.
“It worked David, it worked”, whispered Robert with tears
rolling down his cheeks.
“Everyone is happy again. The dark days are gone. If you’d
only have a few more days, you could be saved too. I wish you could see this
new world David”.
Wiping his tears, Robert bent down to place the flowers on
the grave.
The gravestone read, “Dr. David Bennet (1989-2020)”, with
the epitaph, “All heroes do not wear capes, some wear white coats too”.
Splendid! It's so touching and and painful. Writer of this story deserves praise and appreciation.

Lastly, thanks to all those doctors, the front-line warriors who are the real heroes!
Your imagination is related to the present COVID19 situations in India as well as all over the world we are passing through. In this context your story is really a tribute to all doctors, nurses, health staff who are fighting from front line.
ReplyDeleteThis story is incredible.
ReplyDeleteFrom reading this story i am sure all the dark clouds will go away soon.
Very nice, appropriate and potential story. Really enjoyed❤❤❤
ReplyDeleteThis is simply beautiful. A tender pathos runs through the story. The current corona virus pandemic which has devasted the world, with doctors, nurses and care-givers in the vanguard of the fight against it, getting sick and dying, and yet battling on bravely, gives the story added poignancy. It stays with you for quite a while.
ReplyDeleteWe look forward to more such short stories from the author.
